Abu Qatada (a muslim religious leader whos real name is Omar Mahmoud Mohammed Othman ) sought asylum in Britain in 1993 claiming he was tortured in Jordan. He is currently wanted by nine countries as his sermons were found in the apartment of one of the 9/11 hijackers among other things. In Jordan (in his absence) he has been convicted of not one, but two terrorist conspiracies. Britain is currently not allowing him to be deported because, “evidence of his involvement had been obtained by torturing one of his co-defendants” which would, "legitimize the torture of witnesses and suspects"; an idea which would result in a denial of justice. This event is occurring because the European and the legally binding European convention on human rights which is even superseding Britain's supreme court. This is causing some individuals (mostly conservatives) which wish for Britain to decline being bound by the convention.

  1. Yea i agree, if someone is convicted of terrorism, they should be tortured in order to obtain information. Ask yourself this, what if we captured Osama Bin Laden a day before 9-11 and we knew he was hiding something about the terrorist attack, would you not torture him to save the lives of all those people just because of his "rights?" I don't think so. We should do whatever's necessary to save lives of the innocent even if it means torturing another human being.
